Alfa Romeo Tipo 256 Chassis no. 915.015 with the first production engine no.923801
This stunning car is a 1939 short chassis Tipo 256, the future 6C 2500 Super Sport. Cabriolet body work by Touring of Milano, constructed to their Superleggera specification. Supplied to Benito Mussolini by Alfa Romeo.
Touring replaced the 256 spider racing car body work, but retained the narrower bulkhead and dashboard.
In Tito Anselmi's opinion this body was the most important to be produced by Touring.
This vehicle has been with the present custodian for 40 years, having been in the United Kingdom since the 1940's.
This car is exceptionally original and has been sent to us for a sympathetic restoration back to its former glory, using the absolute minimum of new metal during the process. To repaint the flowing bodywork back to its original black, we have stripped and repaired some of the panels, with any removed original metal being bagged and tagged. We are also working through and overhauling all the mechanical components as necessary, while liaising with Alfa Romeo experts around the world on any detail we are not absolutely sure about.
