Since a young age, I have always been interested in how things work. I was always taking things apart to see how the were built and learning how they worked. Just before my 12th birthday I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and at first it ruled my life but after a while I took back control and decided that I would control it. Now I never let it get in the way of my dreams and like my Mum says - to truly succeed in what you do, you have to love what you do.
At school I never really knew what I wanted to be or what I wanted to do and I was always academically challenged but I persevered and came out with the grades I wanted. I have always known that I wanted to do something that involved an engineering side to it. Lucky for me I was able to have the chance to go and do a week's work experience with Thornley Kelham. I had a great time and it inspired me to know that I wanted to have a career as a mechanical engineer restoring beautiful crafts of history.
I am now doing my apprenticeship in classic car restoration and mechanics. At first I felt I was out of my comfort zone but with great support and encouragement I feel that I will accomplish my dream of becoming a mechanical engineer. I have learnt so much already and hope one day I can become as good as the people that are teaching me. Ihave also started to feel very proud of the fact that I have become part of a team that is keeping history alive for future generations to enjoy.
