For as long as I can remember, I’ve always had a fascination with cars, motorbikes and aircraft. I remember as a child, my father returning after work each evening and reversing into the driveway on his Honda 250 and I’d be stood there waiting with excitement. He would lift me up and sit me on his bike whilst he pushed it into the garage. That made me love mechanics even more! I also remember my mother owning a turquoise blue Rover Kensington. It was absolutely tiny inside and didn’t exactly go very fast, but it was like a little go-kart. My family and I enjoyed some memories in that car. I’ve been lucky to have both parents support and guide me in whatever choices I made. Now at the age of 22, I currently own a 16 plate Honda Civic but I’m hoping one day, that’ll change to a Bizzarrini.
At the age of 19, I worked on the assembly line at Honda in Swindon. I was there for about 4 months before I got a job opportunity to work at McLaren Automotive which is based at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, Surrey. Whilst at McLaren, I learnt how to assemble engines, sub-frames, radiator coolers and brake-bedding. After a while, I made the hard decision to leave. I had then met my partner Sam and we had fallen pregnant with my son, Oscar. After a year off work, we decided that it was time for me to go back into employment.
I had looked around and nothing seemed to interest me until I saw Thornley Kelham advertising a job role for a ‘Stores Assistant’. That very moment, I applied for the role. At my first interview, I fell in love with the workshop, the cars and the people. This was the place I needed to be. I was offered the job role and to this day, I’m grateful to Thornley Kelham for their help and support since I joined here. They welcome everyone with open arms and this is truly a wonderful company to work for. To see a vintage car arrive in a bad state, to then see it looking brand new, is magic! Safe to say, I never want to leave!
